I fished with Tom, Larry and Kyle on Wednesday the 6th of July. We landed 5 very nice summer run steelies. As you can see in the photo one fish was 37 and a half inches long. Our morning started off great as we had 4 fish in the box by 10 in the morning. Then they decided to raise the water on us, but we still managed to get 1 more. It looks like its time, get your days booked because the fishing should be good from here on out. Fish On!
Well after a month of springer jacks and high water flows we are starting to see a fair number of Summer Steelhead in the Cowlitz River and the Kalama River. The one good thing about the high water flows this Spring is we should have a great smolt release. The forecast for are Summer Steelhead this year is average, so get your dates booked and lets go fishing, Fish On!
Hey Guys, we are still catching lots of Steelhead, and there are a few Springers starting to show. But very few because the Columbia is still high and cold. Every one fishing it says it sucks! I figure around April 20th we should see some numbers of Springers showing. I have a couple days in April left and a couple weeks in May to fill. Hope to hear from everyone soon. Fish On!
Hey Guys, I’m still fishing the smaller fisheries in the drift boat. We’re catching some beautiful fish and one of my fisheries right now has a broodstock program that this winter Steelhead came from. It’s working well as we have been getting 3 to 7 fish a day. The Cowlitz River is starting to turn on. I have heard of three to four fish days so far. I have seven days left in March to fill and the first week of April to fill. Get your days booked soon. Fish On!!
We are starting to see some good winter run Steelhead fishing. This early part of the 2011 season we will be drift boat fishing the Wynoochee and Kalama Rivers. Drift boat fishing is great fun and very peaceful. I have two other drift boat guides working with me for larger groups, so let’s go fishing. The mighty Cowlitz River winter Steelhead run will start showing mid February and run thru first week of April so get your days booked. Fish On! And Happy New Year.
Sorry for the delay in fishing reports. It has been a very busy season. Fall Chinook return was not what we had hoped for. We were able scratch up 4-6 on a slow day, 6-12 on a good day and a few big fish. The fish were in great shape this year.
We started fall season off having to release all Chinook with fins. A week or so into the season we contacted Phil Anderson at the Dept of Fish and Wildlife, to explain to him we were catching 60% Chinook with fins. He was real good about it. He said he would talk it over within the department and let us know. 48 hours later we were able to keep one Chinook with a fin and one without. We were very lucky thanks to Phil Anderson. We are starting to see a few more Silvers showing. I think after the next good rains we should see a big push of fish. We have lots of good silver fishing to come, so get your days booked soon
The late August Steelhead run in the lower Cowlitz River this year was not great, but the King Salmon are showing in good numbers already. This is good news for the King Salmon fishing season. I have been getting 3-7 Kings and a few Steelhead each day. Tuesday, August 17th we caught the first Silver Salmon of the season.
We fished the lower Cowlitz River Sunday, August 29th. We started off the morning with a nice summer run Steelhead, soon to be followed by a dandy Chinook. We worked our way down and every hole we fished had fish in them. Some of the Salmon we caught were pushing 30lbs. We ended up with 10 Chinook and 1 Steelhead. Only 4 of the Chinook were keepers, but still a great day of fishing on the Cowlitz River. My days left are limited so book your seats now. Fish on!
